The Domholzschänke

Until the 19th century, there was a small hut at the location of today's inn that was used for forestry and hunting purposes. This was also a popular destination for King Albert of Saxony on the occasion of his frequent hunting trips. From 1912 to 1918 it was the Leipzig Boy Scouts who called the property of the current inn their property. In 1928, an excursion restaurant called “Domholzschänke” was opened next to the existing hunting lodge.

Domholzschänke stands for fresh, regional, and creative cuisine. Fish and game dishes are the specialties of this restaurant, located between Leipzig, Halle, and Merseburg. Domholzschänke opened in 1926. Since then, the country inn has been a popular destination for hikers and cyclists exploring the floodplain forest, a place where a unique diversity of flora and fauna can be experienced.
